The leading dentist in the Harleysville, PA area

As the premier dentist in the Harleysville area,Dr. Nase personally delivers individualized, advanced & comprehensive care to all of his patients. He practices general, implant, and cosmetic dentistry using a method known as “microdentistry.” By using an operating microscope (similar to a neurosurgeon), Dr. Nase creates the most precise, cosmetic and conservative restorations and surgeries possible. Nase Dental Group was one of the first general dentistry practices in the United States to routinely use this technology.

We believe that is the ethical responsibility of the Doctor, not staff, to place both temporary and permanent restorations, regardless of the current trend in Pennsylvania for the utilization of Expanded Function Dental Assistants (EFDAs) who are permitted by law to place fillings and temporaries. We do not, and will not ever employ EFDA personnel, so rest assured that Dr. Nase himself will always place your restoration here at Nase Dental Group.

We are always diligent when it comes to sterilization and prevention of cross-infection from one patient to another. Our treatment rooms and instruments are thoroughly cleaned after every patient. We also voluntarily participate in an autoclave monitoring program, which ensures that our sterilization equipment is working properly.

Our specific services include:

General & Preventative Dentistry

Experts agree that general dental check-ups and cleanings at least twice a year can improve your health by supplementing your home-care regimen of brushing and flossing. It also gives our team the opportunity to make sure your mouth is healthy and address any areas that may need attention. Many area dental practices are driven by the mass numbers of patients seen in a day, instead of the quality of care delivered. In contrast, Nase Dental Group typically schedules each recall appointment for about an hour to ensure that every patient is comprehensively assessed and treated.

Preventive services performed during a check-up may include:

  • Blood pressure screening
  • Comprehensive gum and tooth exam
  • Oral cancer check
  • TMJ jaw joint exam
  • Bite analysis
  • Risk assessment for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea
  • Smoking cessation counseling
  • Oral homecare instruction
  • Removal of plaque and tartar
  • Stain removal
  • Digital X-rays
  • Fluoride application
  • Polishing teeth, including fillings and crowns
  • Exam and cleaning of dentures, partials, and nightguards.
Our hygienists wear head-mounted magnification loupes and a focused, fiber-optic headlight during cleaning. In addition to better quality cleanings, it provides a more thorough job with less tissue trauma and pain

Family Care (Children, Adults, Seniors)

Dr. Nase grew up in his family’s dental practice and has a deep understanding for proper oral health for the entire life-span of his patients. Dr. John Nase’s father, Dr. Benjamin Nase started the Nase Dental Group at the same location in Harleysville in 1960. This resonates through our entire practice. Our team provides thoughtful, gentle and comprehensive dental care to patients ranging from young children to the elderly. Dr. Nase has several families of patients with multiple generations of satisfied clients.

Throughout our patients’ lives, we have a single goal of making sure your dental health is the best it can possibly be. And, we take pride in knowing that our patients are smiling and confident in their professional and personal lives.

Micro-Dentistry

The precision involved with procedures like fillings, crowns and root canals is comparable to the threading of a needle in most cases. Restorations are complicated by the fact the human eye is not powerful enough to see slight defects and fractures, which can hinder the quality of most dental work, if not detected.
With the help of a lighted clinical operating microscope, Dr. Nase can perform procedures while viewing un-shadowed images magnified up to 18 times, giving him a working view that most other dentists only wish they had.
Results:

  • Allows us to make the most precise, cosmetic and conservative restorations possible.
  • Nase Dental Group is one of the first general dentistry practices in the United States to use microscopes of this kind.
  • Every clinical staff member at Nase Dental Group uses some form of magnification, including our hygienists who wear head-mounted magnification loupes and a focused, fiber-optic headlight during cleaning. In addition to better quality cleanings, it provides a more thorough job with less tissue trauma and pain.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea Solutions

Most dentists do not offer any treatment for snoring. A few dentists offer treatment for snoring without taking the necessary steps to diagnose the severity of the problem, usually because they do not possess the training or expertise. Only a handful of dental practitioners work with sleep physicians to effectively diagnose and treat the larger category of sleep disorders, which include obstructive sleep apnea and primary snoring
At The Indian Valley Snore Shop, Dr. Nase will suggest appropriate avenues for diagnosis and treatment of your sleep disorder, based on a comprehensive oral examination and analysis of your symptoms.
Results:

  • Better sleep and less snoring through repositioning the lower jaw, tongue, soft palate and uvula
  • Less cumbersome than CPAP
  • Increasing a patent airway while you sleep.
  • Stabilizing the lower jaw and tongue
  • Increasing the muscle tone of the tongue

Digital X-rays

Dr. Nase and his team are dedicated to using the most advanced technology available. One example is a newer dental x-ray technique called digital imaging. Rather than developing x-ray film in a dark room, the x-rays are sent directly to a computer, where they can be viewed, printed, and stored. Benefits of this technology include:

  • Safety: Digital X-rays use less radiation than the typical X-rays,
  • Convenience: There is less wait-time for the X-rays to develop — the images are developed and available for Dr. Nase’s review almost immediately,
  • Flexibility: Because it is on the computer, the image can be enlarged on a screen, zoomed in on, or moved – allowing Dr. Nase to show you exactly what looks good and any problem areas,
  • Transferability: If your are relocating – or additional care is recommended, images can be easily and quickly sent (electronically) to another dentist or specialist,
  • Review over time periods: Digital review allows dentists to compare old and new images more easily, allowing them to track even tiny changes (not noticeable to the human eye) in your teeth and gums over time.
  • Green practice: Digital X-rays eliminate the environmental burden of caustic chemicals and does not utilize heavy metals, like conventional film.

Digital x-rays are only a part of Nase Dental Group’s commitment to electronic dental records, as being currently mandated by the federal government. In fact, we started using computers for patient recordkeeping over 20 years ago.

Laser Cavity Detection

Dr. Nase and his team pride themselves on using the most advanced technology available to identify and prevent problems at the earliest stage possible – with a goal of better ensuring the health and safety of our patients. One example is the use of Laser Cavity Detection devices.

As fluoride in toothpaste and water has become more common, the enamel on our teeth has become more resistant to decay. While this reduces the overall volume of decay on the surface of the tooth, it makes it difficult to detect decay in the softer layers (dentin) that lie below the layer of enamel and in the small pits and valleys on the surface of your teeth.

We use a small laser device, which emits a safe painless pulse of light through your tooth. The light shows us hidden pockets of decay by comparing the reflected light against the baseline readings for a healthy tooth. While this technology doesn’t totally replace typical examinations or x-rays, it is a powerful supplement to traditional cavity detection – and one that is used only by select dentists.

Dental Implants & Implant Therapy

Although dental techniques and science have increased over the years, many people are victims of tooth loss – mostly due to failed dental work, tooth decay, advanced gum disease or injury. Traditionally, the only treatment options available for people with missing teeth were bridges or dentures. While we still offer these options, today dental implants are a viable first choice for many people.

Dr. Nase is highly involved in educating fellow dentists about implantology and is one of the area’s leading experts in dental implants and implant therapy. Whether you need a single tooth replaced, or are looking for a full mouth restoration, we can offer a host of benefits.

Complex Reconstructions

Complex reconstructions go beyond just replacing a crown or adding an implant – to a comprehensive rehabilitation of your entire mouth, ensuring that your bite and jaw (including the related muscles and tendons) are all working in harmony. These reconstructions become necessary when “as needed” dentistry ceases to maintain oral health and a pleasing appearance. If you feel that your are constantly at the dentist and never dentally stable, you may be a candidate for this type of treatment.

Dr. Nase is a leading practitioner and academic in dental reconstruction and cosmetic dentistry. As a member of the Academy of Implant Prosthodontics and the Academy of Osseointegration, he works with patients to ensure that all facets of your mouth and smile are as perfect as possible. This work can usually be done one section or arch at a time and can be made affordable through creative planning. Patients who receive reconstructions notice improvements in a variety of areas including:

  • Dramatic improvements in appearance and function
  • Far fewer dental emergencies and failing dental work
  • Reduced, generalized tooth wear,
  • More energy and a younger look.
  • Reduction of headaches and localized pain
  • Better overall oral health and breath due to reversal of some of the causes of gum disease and plaque build up

Fixed & Removable Dentures

Dr Nase is an expert at replacing missing teeth and gums. Our expertise includes custom fabrication of natural looking removable dentures made from a host of materials (acrylic, fiber-glass, metal, or a combination of these materials) or cemented bridges (also called “fixed partial dentures”) which replace one to several teeth. These tooth replacements can often be done in conjunction with easily placed implants for rock-solid support without leaving our office.Denture patients often see quality of life improvements through proper denture fittings, including

  • the ability to eat more easily and properly,
  • improved confidence and self esteem through a better appearance (no more missing teeth or sinking lips and cheeks),
  • more comfort from removal of drifting or over-eruption of teeth

If you are considering dentures, Dr. Nase and his team can evaluate your individual situation and provide the best possible recommendations for your needs.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Some dentists use a mixture of metals to fill teeth because they are easy to place (also known as an amalgam and sometimes referred to as “silver fillings” because of the color of the metal). However, fillings can be designed to look as natural as your actual tooth and free of metals.

Dr. Nase uses tooth-like materials, including composite resins and ceramics, to fill cavities because they are predictable, safe, and durable when expertly placed. Furthermore, when you open your mouth they look just like your original tooth surface leading to a more attractive smile and confidence.

Gold Dentalwork

In no other field than Dentistry does the concept of, “the Gold Standard” hold more true. Even to this day, ALL dental restorations are compared to the biocompatibility and durability of those made from gold alloy. Gold fillings (inlays & onlays) and crowns, when expertly placed have the potential to outlast any comparable restoration on the market today. The sad fact is that gold dental work is a dying art because of its difficulty to place and the high cost of the materials. Dr.John Nase routinely performs these gold restorations in non-cosmetic areas upon request and maintains many of these superior works placed decades ago by himself and his father, Dr. Ben Nase.

Bridges, Crowns, Veneers

Dr Nase is a leading expert in cosmetic and aesthetic dental work. And when patients find themselves with damaged or missing teeth, we offer a host of great solutions. By examining your mouth and teeth, we can recommend the best solution for your individual situation, ensuring that your teeth look and feel great while remaining healthy. Some common solutions for missing or damaged teeth include:

  • Bridges: Used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges span the empty space where a tooth was previously located. They are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space.
  • Crowns: Used to cover or “cap” damaged teeth. Crowns not only improve the appearance, but they also can stabilize a compromised tooth due to wear, fracture or decay Ceramic (or porcelain) crowns can match the color of your teeth, while other metal materials (gold and other alloys) are used for durability in hidden areas.
  • Veneers: Used to cover the front surface and edge of a tooth, similar to a fake fingernail, but more durable.. Veneers are sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental laminates. They are thin, custom-formed shells of tooth colored material is bonded directly to the front of teeth to change their color, size and/or shape.

Dr. Nase can recommend the best solution for your case and discuss the best options for patients with any of these solutions currently in their mouths.

Immediate Anesthetic Reversal

Many patients are frustrated by the long period of time it takes dental numbing agents to wear off – leading to difficulty eating, drinking, speaking and interacting. This is even more of an issue for professionals who want the convenience of dental care during their work day.

At Nase Dental Group we understand – and frequently use a break-through product (and technique) that can reduce the time for numbness by 50% or more.

Many patients feel sensation return within as little as half an hour, without feeling an increase in pain related to the treatment. When timed properly, patients can have full feeling back before leaving our office.

Beyond convenience, this service is also useful for elderly patients, children or special needs patients who may be more prone to bite their lip or tongue while it is numbed. Immediate anesthetic reversal is another way that the Nase Dental team goes above and beyond to ensure our patients have the best possible options in care, service and convenience.

An integral part of our checkup exam is a thorough examination of your gum health. Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults. Just like healthy trees can’t grow in bad soil, your teeth need healthy gums to thrive. Dr. Nase can recommend a periodontal (gum care) program and treatments to help you increase your gum health and avoid tooth loss. Some of our services include:

  • Detailed gum charting to track changes.
  • In-office periodontal (gum) l diagnosis and treatment
  • Deep, topical anesthetic for gum treatments
  • Deep cleanings (scaling and root planning)
  • Ultrasonic scaling
  • Local antibiotic therapy
  • Assessment and treatment of gum recession
  • Gum and bone grafting
  • Treatment of cancer therapy-related complications

TMJ Therapy

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome is pain in the jaw joint that can be caused by a variety of dental issues, but is often the result of teeth grinding and clenching (also called bruxism). TMJ disorders can be either intermittent or constant, but are generally progressive (getting worse) in nature.

Dr Nase and his team are well versed in the best solutions for improving your dental health and your quality of life when suffering from TMJ and jaw related pain. This can include the use of a custom-fitted, easy to use splint (also called occlusal splints or bite plates), which is a plastic guard placed between your upper and lower teeth to reduce grinding and clenching to alteration of bite interferences through a variety of methods. By reducing tension on your teeth, these treatments in turn relieve jaw muscle tension and pain. Dr. Nase has also seen a dramatic improvement in some patients through the prudent use of Botulinum toxin.
Patients who seek Nase Dental Group TMJ treatments can notice:

  • Reduced pain in jaw and facial muscles
  • Reduced ear pain and ringing
  • Elimination of clicking sound in jaw
  • Fewer headaches and other symptoms related to TMJ
